Sculpture
The monumental sculptures by Eric Luc Maquet do not decorate a place — they transform it. Designed to assert themselves with precision in public spaces as much as in exceptional settings, they become strong visual landmarks, works that capture attention and leave a lasting impression.
From glass to stone. From stone to steel. From steel to bronze.

The artist
Eric Luc Maquet
Eric Luc Maquet is a Belgian architect from a long line of architects, director of a college of art, an artist first and a sculptor foremost.
He was very interested in comic strips, which he tried his hand at as a student. He was poised to become a car designer, an aeronautics draftsman, or any number of other things.
Under the spell of a visit to the Cristalleries du Val-Saint-Lambert, Eric Luc started working with glass, learned to blow it, and trained at Sars-Poteries with professors from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam.
Sculpture… from glass to stone, to steel, to bronze.

Blower of light
Glass

By Serge Goldwicht
Discovery of a few objects from an unknown cult
The history of these objects is very old, or perhaps it has not yet begun. Eric Luc Maquet, their creator, breathes his soul into the molten crystal. He traces infinite signs into it; he offers us true instruments of vision, instruments of dream.
That dream is ours — the dream of the human being who scans the universe by plunging their gaze into the strange creations of the artist. But what is the artist telling us by making works that escape the classical categories of art? Clearly, this creator's concerns are not merely formal or three-dimensional.
It is as if the artist wished to show us a catalogue of functional objects whose function we do not — or do not yet — know. A production of objects from an undefined cult, of which each of us would hold part of the key.
Poetic objects, catalysts of secret thoughts, confidants of the unconscious, set down, laid out, suspended to the rhythm of infinite reflections: such are the works of Eric Luc Maquet. No doubt one must remember his training as an architect, and imagine transparent cathedrals like eternal totems, created to the ultimate measure of the human.

Steel
Change within continuity
For my steel sculptures, I begin with my soldering iron, making small models that I then enlarge to the final dimension — for, as is often the case with steel and bronze, my sculptures can be scaled up homothetically.
I carry out a commission for the non-profit LES ARTS DE LA RUE: a large tilting sculpture (see photos below). I also make three smaller pivoting and tilting sculptures. But I still cannot find a satisfactory solution for fixing the aluminium sails to the skewed triangles. And this problem begins to seriously weigh down my work!
After several months of reflection, it is therefore reluctantly and with enormous regret that I decide to suspend this work.
New horizons…
My goal is to imagine a new way of writing. I take up drawing again. I search…
And coming from I know not where, I begin to draw shapes, surfaces and taut lines, to create a kind of unidentified living object — with parts that, from afar, suggest stylised animal forms, flying objects or not…
